Captain Marvel is set in the '90s, and that gave us the creative hook for its home entertainment release. On this spec project, I leaned all the way into the era with VHS tracking lines, retro video-game graphics and the look of a well-worn tape. The nostalgia does two jobs: it suits Carol Danvers' story, and it gives the audience something to smile at before the release message lands. It was a fun chance to treat a modern Marvel release as if it had come out on the shelf next to the originals.
